With a stunning waterfront location, the ANZ Viaduct Events Centre is Auckland's newest purpose-built events space.

Designed by Moller architects the VEC offers 6000m2 of exhibition, meeting and hospitality space on Halsey Wharf, while allowing the marine and fishing industry to continue to operate from the wharf. Strong connections to the venue’s maritime location can be seen in the lyrical wave form of the roof and the gangplanks that lead to the public viewing deck.

While exploring Wynyard Quarter, take the time to walk up the public viewing deck and take in the spectacular view across the Waitemata harbour.

In 2011 Moller Architects won the Public Architecture Category for the ANZ Viaduct Events Centre: "The building sits happily on its commanding harbourside site, under roofs evocative of waves and billowing sails. Clean, clear details and material choices are evident throughout the building, which offers a fantastic public viewing deck and bold interior colours."

Sustainability
The Viaduct Events Centre has been designed to achieve a five-star rating in the New Zealand Green Building Council environmental rating system. A number of initiatives have meant that energy costs and water consumption for the VEC are up to 60% lower than a conventional office building:

  • Use of seawater and as a heating and cooling source via reversible heat pumps
  • Rainwater collected from the roof and re-used for toilet flushing
  • Large roof overhangs provide solar shielding in summer but let in sun’s rays in winter

In 2011 Moller Architects won the Sustainable Architecture category in The New Zealand Institute of Architects for the VEC. The judges commended the project for an integrated an innovative approach to sustainability.
