The sun has set on the Summer on Queens programme for another year
The chill in the mornings signals the end of summer and with that, the end of the Summer of Queens programme. As with previous years, the 2017 - 2018 summer period saw firm favourites return and exciting new events sweep us off our feet. Here's a wrap of all the amazing goodness Queens Wharf had to offer.
Connections - PEACE
Photographic luminary Tom Ang returned with his photography challenge in which budding photographers came together under his guidance and instruction to produce a group exhibition inspired by Auckland as a city of peace. This annual offering of visual delights is always a welcome addition to the fence alongside where the cruise ships dock on Queen’s Wharf. We're so grateful to Tom for investing so much of his expertise in developing the next generation a photographers. Looking forward to having you back next Summer Tom.
Continuing the creative offering for Queens Wharf, our friends from Drawing Club created a relaxing, early evening artistic affair on selected Wednesdays over the summer season. Seasoned sketchers and creative newbies came together to share their love of drawing with figure drawing in a curated setting - complete with life models, still life backdrops and music.
The delightful and ever energetic team at WE-AR yoga gave us the opportunity to salute the sun through free sunrise yoga session at the end of Queens Wharf. These rain or shine sessions were always exceptionally well attended and enjoyed by many. We'll definitely be back with our yoga mat under arm next summer.
The Cloud Markets
Auckland Anniversary weekend saw the return of The Cloud Markets. This well curated, vibrant contemporary market-place is a regular fan favourite. Full of diverse cultural tastes and high quality, attractive things to buy, it also offered a family-friendly zone full of children's activities and games. There was event a floral crown workshop to entice the inner Bohemian.
Village of Flowers
The pièce de résistance of the Summer of Queens was newly created Village of Flowers. This delightful visual showpiece, included a carefully selected range of events from the surprise and delight of floral giveaways to the fostering of inner gardener with floral workshops. The response was unanimous, Aucklanders love flowers. Village of Flowers will be back...
