Meet Andrew, Volunteer at Daldy Street Community Garden
Devonport resident Andrew Mackenzie works as a busy engineer in the city by day. In his spare time, he is one of our fantastic community garden volunteers.
The garden, established and supported by Ngati Whatua Orakei in partnership with Panuku, is located outside the Tram Shed on Daldy Street. In preparation for our new residential community in Wynyard Quarter, the ground work begun early with this communal garden initiative.
Andrew stops by the gardens to and from work, watering, weeding and planting new seeds. He also coordinates the volunteers (and is always on the hunt for more helping hands). The volunteers are currently busy prepping the gardens for winter, removing the summer plants and replacing them with cooler weather plants such as spinach.
Andrew says people love getting their hands dirty and mucking in. He also has gained a real sense of pride by seeing a community evolve around the gardens.
If you’re interested in helping out in our garden down the road, Andrew would love to hear from you. Get in touch with him at - AndrewMackenzie@frame.co.nz
