This project sees the redevelopment of the Mason Brothers/Southern Spas building by Precinct and NZ Strong for new offices.

21 November 2016

At Mason Brothers the external fitout is completed and the first two floors are nearing completion ready for the arrival of the first tenants at the beginning of December. The trucks arriving will soon be delivering furniture not materials.

7 November 2016

At Mason Brothers the external fitout is 95% completed and internally the ground floor and 1st floor are 85% completed.

The top floor is on target for completion in February.

5 October 2016

At Mason Brothers we have poured the external path and are continuing a concerted push to completion.

The site will be ready for its first tenants, Warren and Mahoney Architects who move in at the beginning of December.

10 October 2016

The job is progressing well with the landscaping concrete now poured and  the tenant fitouts in full swing and our 2nd tenant due to start their fit-out next month. The first tenant actually moves in at the beginning of December.

Mason Brothers continue with the fit out. Hard landscaping is under way as well in order to have the first tenant moving in come December

Significant work on the internal fit-out. External cladding is now 95% completed.

  • Landscaping has begun with the decorative concrete due to be poured in the next 3-4weeks.
  • The first tenants will move in on December.

At Mason Brothers more glass is being installed and the building is close to becoming watertight.

Progress is tracking well, with the facade now installed. Finishing trades are now working hard inside the building and the interiors are taking shape.

Landscaping is due to commence shortly which will add the finishing touches to the exterior of the building.

The completely restored building will be open later this year and it is a great combination of the original  brick cladding and internal structure with the most up to date modern fit-out.

Clients such as Warren and Mahoney will start moving into the building as soon as their areas are completed, starting from December 2016.

Landscaping is due to commence in the next couple of weeks which will add the finishing touches to the exterior of the building.

Clients will start moving into the building as soon as their areas are completed, starting from December 2016.

The building is starting to take shape with the roofing and the glass wall panelling on the east and western sides now complete. This allows work on the internal structure, fittings and finer details to be started. Gib is being installed and the fit out for the first tenant is underway early next week.

At Mason Brothers you can now watch as the glass curtain walling goes up along the western frontage. As the exterior walling gets put in place the building is freed up to start the interior work. Work to construct the roof continues.

Work to construct the roof continues. The scaffold that is currently erected along the sites southern Pakenham Street frontage will come down over this week to reveal the restored concrete wall.

Curtain wall panels for the building’s exterior are being delivered to site from 7 June. Watch this space, as the curtain wall goes up the building will really start to transform. The installation of the exterior roofing material is now nearly 50% complete.

The suspended floor slabs at Mason Brothers to create two new levels within the building are now complete. Effectively a new building is being built inside the original Mason Brothers building shell, which can be likened to a ship inside bottle.

The roof carpentry is underway will be completed over the coming weeks. The exterior roofing material will start to go on from next week. Work on the lintels and brick work and finer exterior detail and finishing work will commence over the next week.

The last of the precast has been installed. The site is two weeks away from pouring the last suspended floor slab. The roof carpentry is underway will continue over the coming weeks. The plant platforms are taking shape and work on the lintels and brick work is to commence. Ground floor slabs will be poured once all in ground services for the future building are in place.

The Mason Brothers site is coming to the end of structural works. Roof works are well under way at the Pakenham St end of the building as well as some façade works. You’ll note that scaffolding has been erected up the front of the Pakenham Street face of the Mason Brothers building. This will be used to facilitate works to the front and roof of the building. Very soon the site will be starting to run services in ground.

On site work is progressing well and contractors are already past half way on the structure.

Structural steel to form the new Level  1 and 2 floors continues to be erected at the northern end of the building. The concrete floors of Level 1 and 2 are being poured starting from the Pakenham Street end of the building. Precast panels will start to be delivered to site and external cladding work will start over the next few weeks.

Now the Annex building has been demolished, loading and unloading will occur from the old Annex building footprint. When demolition of this Annex building is complete, more of our construction traffic will enter and exit via the internal construction haul road (that runs between Halsey and Daldy Streets) rather than Pakenham Street.

The steel and pre-cast panels will be delivered to site from Pakenham Street over next few weeks. Once the Annex building has been demolished, loading and unloading will occur from the old Annex building footprint.

Demolition of the Annex will continue over February 2016. We continue stripping paint to expose the old brick that will form a key part of the new building façade. New steel continues to be erected on site. This will support the two new floors that also utilise the existing structure. The new steel ‘ribs’ for the floor structure of Mason Brothers building will be delivered to site over next few weeks. Drainage for the new building starts to be laid.

Hawkins Infrastructure are building the combined services trench in the Pakenham Street footpath outside the Mason Brothers building. Demolition of the adjacent ‘Annex’ building next to Mason Brothers has commenced with the removal of the roof. Demolition of the Annex will continue over February 2016.

At Mason Brothers we had a busy New Years period.

We removed the last of the old roofing and continued stripping paint to expose the old brick that will form a key part of the new building façade. We now have the new steel being erected on site. This will support the two new floors that also utilise the existing structure. The next major demolition task will be to pull down the Annex building adjacent to the Mason Brother building, this will start 2 February 2016.

20 December 2015

Over the last 2 weeks the site has been extremely busy.

Portions of existing steel not required or being replaced are being removed. Foundations have been excavated and piles have been driven to depth. 

Up until Christmas work will be continuing with the last of the demolition while the foundation pads are poured. 

The site will have a small crew continuing work on the days between Christmas and New Year so that we are ready to hit the ground running on 5th January with Steel to support the new floors coming in that week.

4 December 2015

The bulk of the demolition has now been completed. The finer details of demolition associated with tidying the structure and walls that are to remain for the new life of the building is underway.

The building is very busy now with machines piling or excavating in every corner of the site. The interest in our site from the public is continuous with plenty of praise that so much of the original building is being maintained and refurbished.

20 November 2015
Over the next two weeks demolition continues on the internal building elements. This demolition is unearthing some native timbers that we will be salvaging for re-use, assisting us in achieving a green star rating.

The piling, ground works and general construction will start from week commencing 30 November 2015.

6 November 2015
Asbestos removal and removal of the roof cladding has now been completed. Work to remove the cladding on the western wall has commenced.  Demolition of the office mezzanine at Mason Brothers continues. Many items of the old buildingare being carefully and methodically removed so they can be incorporated back into the newly refurbished building.

From late November 2015 construction will commence, beginning with installation of new piles.
