Check out the difference a bit of colour and a table can make in reconnecting the waterfront and its people.

With the return of Eastern Viaduct from a carpark to a shared public space, we've introduced some simple interim measures to attract pedestrian and cyclists back into the area.

While a permanent solution for the future of the space  is being investigated, we've introduced New Zealand's longest table at a little over 35 meters long (that's longer than two cricket pitches!)

The table, which sits atop a large strip of astro turf, is surrounded by welcoming planters with trees casting shade across bench seats. The table itself is split into 13 smaller tables of different sizes, catering to children and adults.

What was once a space dominated by grey concrete and cars, it's amazing what a little colour and a table can do to reconnect the waterfront and its people.
